About Us

Welcome to the official website for children's book author, Marcy Skinner & Story-Express.

What is Story-Express? Story-Express was established as an organization in 2003 in Logan, Utah to help promote language arts, literacy & more specifically storytelling in our community. Classes, workshops, presentations & storytelling concerts are made available in conjunction with community & storytelling guild members; adult & youth storytellers & educators.

Story-Express is also a publishing house for books written by author, Marcy Skinner.

Who is Marcy Skinner? Mother, wife, children's book author, storyteller, storytelling coach, event organizer, lover of nature and animals, and an ex-financial aid counselor. After a 17-year hiatus at Utah State University, Marcy is able to return to her life's passion and work, which is writing for children. While earning a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy and a Master's in Folklore, with specialization in storytelling, Marcy continued to promote diversity, communication and literacy in Cache Valley.

She strongly believes in the power and importance of sharing stories within our families and our communities. Seeking and finding value in every human being she meets, she understands that each individual has a special story to tell, and she wants to help you tell it!

Marcy was bit by the storytelling bug in August 2000 when she attended the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival in Orem, Utah. From there she flew to Jonesborough, Tennessee in October to the National Storytelling Festival. Only with one month's preparation, she returned and directed an annual worldwide storytelling event called "Tellabration!" in November for her community.

Momentum increased as she became president of the Cache Valley Chapter of the Utah Storytelling Guild. In 2003, she organized and directed "A Festival of Words!" providing over 2,700 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students the opportunity to listen to and enjoy internationally-renown storyteller Diane Ferlatte and other regional tellers. She organized free busing for these children to the Utah State University's Morgan Theatre for this event. Many venues were used during that 3-day event, which provided thousands of community members, both young and old an opportunity to participate in workshops and to be entertained.

As owner of Story-Express Marcy has also presented numerous storytelling and literacy workshops and presentations including teaching drama to youth at Cache Valley's popular Unicorn Theatre.

Currently, publishing her many children's books is her priority, and is excited to announce her upcoming book, which will be available by April 2010. This will be a must-read for 3rd to 7th graders & a great tool for teachers!

Her life travels include: sunny California, Greece, mainly Crete; Bulgaria, Turkey, Israel, the British Isles, Hawaii, & presently resides in northern Utah.
